The Health Trade Consortium: An Exceptional Opportunity for Export Growth and Medical Tourism
According to the Khorasan Razavi Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Ali‑Mohammad Shariati‑Moghaddam, Chairman of the Commission for Knowledge‑Based Enterprises, Digital Economy, and Artificial Intelligence at the Mashhad Chamber, emphasized that establishing a Health Trade Consortium represents a strategic and exceptional opportunity to expand exports and attract international medical tourists.
He stated that where legal frameworks already support development, related knowledge‑based regulations should be implemented swiftly and effectively.
“The formation of this consortium,” he said, “is a unique opportunity that can be realized with the support of the provincial governor. Although past coordination challenges among institutions slowed progress, Khorasan Razavi remains a pioneer in this field.”
At the national level, Shariati‑Moghaddam explained, there is no opposition to developing knowledge‑based industries or export initiatives, though some cumbersome regulations continue to pose serious obstacles.
Referring to marketing transformations within the province, he noted that “we have moved beyond traditional and aggressive marketing methods toward reverse marketing, meaning that the value and advantages created locally now attract international clients on their own.”
He added that Mashhad and Khorasan Razavi exemplify this model, as their high‑quality healthcare services and competitive pricing naturally draw foreign patients and medical tourists to their clinics and specialists.
He stressed that to accelerate consortium formation, it is vital to leverage the full capacities of the knowledge‑based sector while avoiding government over‑involvement.
“This consortium,” he said, “should not be confined to companies based in science and technology parks; rather, it must be viewed as a national export hub.”
He also highlighted that the Government–Private Sector Dialogue Council could play a crucial role in facilitating coordination and eliminating restrictive regulations.
Continuing, Shariati‑Moghaddam underlined that identifying key companies and leaders in the health and knowledge‑based economy sectors should be prioritized.
Additionally, he pointed out that capacity‑building programs, professional training, and multi‑dimensional support mechanisms will be essential for smooth consortium development.
Finally, he emphasized the need to utilize capacities within the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT) and the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran to support the structure and creation of export consortiums, describing it as an indispensable step for sustainable advancement in the sector.
