According to the Public Relations Office of the Khorasan Razavi Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Ali‑Mohammad Shariati‑Moghadam, Chairman of the Commission on Knowledge‑Based Economy, Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence, and member of the Policy Council for the National Saffron Day Festival, opened the session by emphasizing close cooperation among the Iranian Intellectual Property Organization, the National Saffron Council, and international entities including the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
He explained that the foundation of these collaborations aims to protect intellectual property rights and strengthen the global brand position of Iranian saffron. These measures, he noted, are vital for safeguarding originality, identity, and added value in global trade.

Shariati‑Moghadam stressed that National Saffron Day is not merely a symbolic celebration, but rather a strategic opportunity to review past progress and design a future roadmap for the industry. He urged viewing the occasion as a launching platform for long‑term planning across the saffron value chain — from cultivation and processing to branding and international marketing.
Supporting Innovators: The Missing Link in Saffron Development
In the next part of his remarks, Shariati‑Moghadam pointed to the urgent need to support talented innovators and technologists. In recent years, numerous innovative projects in saffron research and processing have emerged, yet many failed to reach completion due to insufficient investment and limited support. He cited as an example university projects at Sharif University of Technology, which achieved notable technical progress in saffron processing, but had to be discontinued because of lack of funding.
He concluded by underscoring that intellectual property must be recognized as a fundamental value in the saffron industry. Accordingly, policy‑makers should integrate legal and financial mechanisms to protect inventors, researchers, and technology pioneers, ensuring innovation translates into sustainable economic value.
