then under the weight of the millstone,<\/p>\n
through water and fire,<\/p>\n
becomes bread in a blazing oven\u2014<\/p>\n
a piece of life,<\/p>\n
dipped by a dervish\u2019s dried hand into water.<\/p>\n
A glance toward the sky,<\/p>\n
a moment of quiet carved into time.<\/p>\n
Or perhaps not\u2014<\/p>\n
perhaps it remains in the heart of the earth,<\/p>\n
only to rise elsewhere,<\/p>\n
in better soil,<\/p>\n
among kinder company;<\/p>\n
to move, to grow,<\/p>\n
to become the light and the green of our Nowruz\u2014<\/p>\n
the laughter that follows tears.<\/p>\n
A spring reunion,<\/p>\n
accompanied by a golden coin,<\/p>\n
the sweetness of samanu,<\/p>\n
the red shimmer of the fish,<\/p>\n
on the white table of peace and friendship.<\/p>\n
And this tricolor flag you know\u2014<\/p>\n
so that in clearer air,<\/p>\n
joyfully, lovingly,<\/p>\n
it may reach freedom,<\/p>\n
and beauty.<\/p>\n
